Behavioral Health Workforce
In 2017 the Coachella Valley formed an alignment team to address a critical shortage in behavioral health professionals and access to programs. Our goal is that local students pursue professions in the behavioral health field in order to return their knowledge and skills back to the Coachella Valley. A 2016 report by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) on the projected supply and demand for behavioral health practitioners through 2025 indicated significant shortages of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, and marriage and family therapists.
